Heat Warning in Effect!

heat exhaustion2The Ste Genevieve County Health Department is urging residents to take precautions during periods of extreme heat to prevent heat-related illnesses and injuries.

  • Stay indoors as much as possible and limit exposure to the sun.
  • Consider spending the warmest part of the day in public buildings such as libraries or shopping centers. Call 211 for the nearest location of a cooling center.
  • Use fans and dehumidifiers.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Limit intake of alcoholic beverages.
  • Keep pets indoors
  • Check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air conditioning.
  • Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
  • Avoid strenuous work during the warmest part of the day
