Orphaned Container Reporting

As the water continues to recede the Missouri Department of Natural Resources is committed to assist with any orphaned containers that may be discovered.

Examples of flood-related orphaned containers, which may contain hazardous materials and include, but are not limited to:

  • very small containers
  • 5-gallon buckets
  • drums and carboys
  • totes and agricultural materials
  • pressurized cylinders and vessels
  • propane and anhydrous ammonia tanks
  • large/multi-thousand gallon above ground storage tanks


Any flood-related orphaned containers may be reported to the Department’s Environmental Emergency Response (EER) Section.


Reporting flood-related orphaned containers to EER may be accomplished by one of the following ways:

Flood-related orphaned containers need to be reported as soon as possible, so they can be addressed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
