WIC Contract Awarded for 2017/2018

STE GENEVIEVE – The Ste Genevieve County Health Department is pleased to announce that a contract to continue providing WIC (Women, Infant and Children) services for federal fiscal year 2017-2018 has been signed with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

 The Ste Genevieve County WIC program serves on average four hundred people a month.  WIC is a nutrition education, health promotion and supplemental food program to assist women, infants and children who have nutritional needs.

Women who are pregnant, in postpartum (pregnancy ended less than six months ago) or breastfeeding, infants under 12 months old and children under the age of five.  Participants must be a resident of Missouri, meet income guidelines and have a nutritional risk.

 If they are receiving Medicaid, TANF or food stamps they automatically qualify.  If eligible, participants will be given nutrition education, referrals and checks for nutritious foods to buy at participating grocery stores.  Breastfeeding support and peer counseling services are also available to pregnant and breastfeeding moms under this contract.
