Start the Day with a Good Breakfast

Breakfast is the meal most neglected and missed.  People accredit this to their hectic lifestyles, wanting to lose weight, or not feeling hungry in the morning.  However, most people don’t realize that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Breakfast is an early morning refueling after about 8-12 hours of sleep.  Our bodies need to replenish its glucose.  The brain and muscles need glucose for thinking and physical activity.  Breakfast skippers often feel tired, irritable, or restless in the morning.  Those who eat breakfast tend to have more strength and endurance and better concentration and problem-solving ability.  Breakfast eating is associated with better attitudes toward work and school.

People who eat breakfast usually have better weight control than those who skip breakfast.  Breakfast skippers tend to eat higher fat foods later in the day or eat more in their next meal.  If trying to lose or maintain weight, it is better to eat three meals a day, beginning with breakfast.  Eating a balanced breakfast will cause a sustained release of energy which will delay symptoms of hunger.  In addition to this, it keeps our metabolism at a steady rate.

If you are someone with a hectic lifestyle, it may be best to find quick to fix foods or get it ready the night before.  This might include a piece of fruit, a yogurt smoothie, or a granola bar.  If you’re not feeling hungry in the morning, start with a light bite and eat a small snack later.  And, you do not have to eat “breakfast foods” for breakfast.  A lunchmeat sandwich or slice of pizza is fine to eat.  Just remember that the most important thing is to “refuel” our bodies in the morning.breakfast
