Flu Season Update

flu illnessWe continue to see a high numbers of positive flu cases in Ste Genevieve County.  Our county data is consistent with neighboring counties and state data.  This past week we have had over 70 positive flu cases.  The majority of cases this week (69%) have been influenza B.  All ages have been affected.  Of those with positive flu, most (78%) did not receive the flu shot this year.  Please continue to be vigilant to protect yourself and family against the flu virus, and prevent spread of the flu virus.

Flu symptoms include rapid onset of fever, body aches, and congestion that last typically 5-7 days.  The best protection is vaccination followed by frequent hand washing and stay home if you are sick to prevent spread.  If flu symptoms develop, consult your doctor, as use of antiviral medications can shorten the course and minimize the duration. Take precautions to keep yourself and your family healthy.
