Cholesterol – On
most Thursday mornings (8:00 am – 12 Noon) public health nurses are available for
the following screenings:
- Total Cholesterol – a finger stick screening for a total cholesterol
count only. Suggested donation of $3. No fasting required.
- Lipid Panel – a finger stick test for a breakdown. Appointments
are required. There is a $15 charge. Fasting from at least midnight the night before
is required.
Blood Pressure
– Walk-ins will be served any time if a nurse is available. Appointments suggested.
Hemoglobin – A
finger-stick blood screening for anemia. Appointments suggested.
Blood Sugar - A
finger-stick blood screening for diabetes. Appointments suggested. Fasting from
at least midnight the night before is required.
Other Lab Tests

Blood can be drawn for some other lab tests for those who are underinsured or have
no health insurance. The specimens are mailed to a lab and the physician receives
the lab results in about one week. Patients must have a signed order from their
physician and an appointment must be scheduled on a Tuesday morning. Patients are
required to pay for these tests prior to having blood drawn.
Blood can also be drawn for certain sexually transmitted diseases. The specimens
are mailed to the state laboratory in Jefferson City. Results are usually back in
a week to 10 days. No charge.
